Senior System Support Engineer

About the Role

As a Senior System Support Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational efficiency, stability, and availability of complex application systems. You will contribute significantly to operational success, refine your expertise in incident management and DevOps, and leave a lasting impact on the delivery of inventive solutions to our clients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize skills in incident management processes and tools, and application monitoring metrics and tooling to generate reports and take corrective actions.
  • Understand complex application systems and debug business-impacting issues.
  • Follow standards and best practices to enhance operational efficiencies, stability, and availability of the system.
  • Employ continuous delivery practices to evolve, support, and deliver high-quality software and value to end customers early, working in collaborative, value-driven teams to build innovative customer experiences.
  • Leverage knowledge of various logging techniques (various levels) for alerting, monitoring, and identifying the root cause of incidents.
  • Efficiently use DevOps tools and practices to deploy and run software.
  • Act as a mentor for less experienced peers through technical knowledge and leadership skills.
  • Apply the latest technology thinking from our Technology Radar to solve client problems.

Job Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Experience with programming languages such as Java or .Net.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Powershell.
  • High-level understanding of various architectures (monolithic, N-tier, layered, microservices, serverless).
  • Strong debugging and triaging skills to troubleshoot code effectively.
  • Experience with relational databases (MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with containerization tools (Docker) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure pipelines).
  • Experience with relational or non-relational databases.
  • Understanding of application monitoring tools (DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana), their metrics, and the ability to generate reports and take corrective actions.
  • Ability to ensure deliverables (bug fixes, enhancements) are high-quality and well-tested.
  • Comfort with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).

Professional Skills

  • Ability to influence others and advocate for technical excellence while being open to change.
  • Good communication and articulation skills.
  • Presence in the external tech community, willing to share expertise (speaking engagements, open source contributions, blogs).
  • Resilience in ambiguous situations and ability to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
  • Advocacy for and implementation of cloud best practices (resource optimization, monitoring, alerting).
  • Advocacy for security best practices and their implementation.
  • Ability to guide and mentor junior-level consultants.
  • Willingness to participate in a rotation- and need-based 24x7 available team.
