About the Role
PandaDoc is seeking a visionary Senior Design Engineer to join our Growth track, operating at the critical intersection of design and engineering. In our AI-first environment, the speed and fidelity of prototyping are paramount for validating ideas and making informed decisions quickly. You will transform working prototypes into production-grade React code within days, significantly impacting how the Growth team approaches product development. Your role will be instrumental in shortening the distance from concept to validated decision and ultimately, to shipped features. You will also develop the operational frameworks, patterns, and prompt libraries that empower our designers to work at an accelerated pace, setting a new standard for AI-assisted development.
This is a leadership opportunity where you will drive change, champion best practices, and be recognized for both your direct contributions and your ability to elevate the entire team's capabilities.
What You'll Do
- Rapid Prototyping: Quickly prototype AI-native concepts in production-grade React code, transitioning from Figma or LLM conversations to fully functional applications in days. Own all aspects of the prototype, including layout, interaction, motion, accessibility, and performance.
- Production Shipping: Ship and own key Growth surfaces end-to-end, ensuring high quality in layout, interaction, motion, accessibility, and performance.
- Elevate Quality: Define and uphold the highest standards of design and engineering craft, particularly in areas where AI currently has limitations. Establish benchmarks for AI-assisted output through reviews, examples, and reusable patterns.
- Enhance AI Tools & Processes: Improve existing AI-enabled tools, processes, patterns, and prompt libraries to boost team efficiency and velocity.
- Define AI Quality Standards: Collaborate with design leadership to set the bar for excellence in AI-assisted product development, providing clear examples and reusable components.
- Shape the Function: As the first Design Engineer, you will define the scope and operational model of this critical role at PandaDoc, owning initiatives from problem framing through to launch.
- Measure Impact: Your success will be evaluated based on both the features you ship and the increased velocity and efficiency of the broader team.
What You Need
- A robust portfolio showcasing shipped interfaces or widely-used components, demonstrating strong expertise in both design and front-end engineering.
- Proficiency in React, TypeScript, modern CSS, and at least one animation library (e.g., Framer Motion, React Spring).
- Demonstrated active and opinionated use of AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code in your daily workflow, with a clear understanding of how to achieve production-quality results.
- A keen eye for identifying inefficiencies in design and engineering workflows and a proactive approach to building solutions (tools, patterns, processes).
- Comfort with building from scratch and the judgment to establish direction in ambiguous situations.
Our Tech Stack
React, TypeScript, our internal AI-enabled design system, Figma, Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot. While experience across all is not required, enthusiasm for working closely with product, AI, and users is essential.
