⨠AI Insights & Summary
Gather AI is at the forefront of revolutionizing the supply chain industry with its innovative, vision-powered platform utilizing autonomous drones. This is a unique opportunity for a UX Designer to define and shape the user experience for an entirely new product category in a rapidly evolving robotics sector. You'll have the chance to go beyond typical UX roles by directly observing and interacting with users in real-world warehouse environments, ensuring your designs are practical and impactful. This role offers a clear path to leadership as the company's first dedicated UX hire.
About Gather AI
At Gather AI, we're not just creating software; we're pioneering a new era of warehouse intelligence. Our groundbreaking, vision-powered platform uses autonomous drones and existing equipment to capture real-time data, completely digitizing historically manual and error-prone workflows. This enhances facility operations, making them smarter, safer, and more efficient, ultimately redefining delivery standards. Join us in reshaping the global supply chain with intelligent warehouses.
About the Team
The Product team at Gather AI operates at a unique intersection, blending software development with the practical realities of warehouse floor operations. Our users are forklift operators, site managers, and field technicians. Design here focuses on understanding operational pressures and creating software that enhances, rather than hinders, their work.
About the Role
As our UX Designer, you will define what constitutes excellent user experience for a new product category. You will design the software that warehouse associates interact with daily, including operator apps for drone and MHE Vision systems, tablet interfaces for users on their feet, and Sage, our AI-powered inventory intelligence platform. Your design process will be driven by direct observation and user interaction at customer sites in Houston, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. This is Gather AI's first dedicated UX hire, offering immediate ownership of the design vision and a visible path to Director of UX.
What You'll Do
- Own UX design for the MHEV operator app, including rapid ramp-up, shipping a v2 concept within 3 months, and taking full design ownership.
- Design for real operational conditions, creating clear and effective tablet interfaces for warehouse associates working in noisy, time-pressured environments.
- Travel to customer sites to observe product usage in the field and integrate these insights into design decisions.
- Shape the AI-driven insights layer, Sage, as your second product surface, influencing its direction in its early stages.
- Collaborate directly in Figma with engineering and product teams, prototyping quickly and delivering designs that minimize ambiguity.
- Utilize AI tools like Claude to move from concept to functioning prototypes rapidly.
What You'll Need
- A portfolio showcasing UX work for products with real users and workflows, demonstrating your design process.
- Comfort using AI tools (like Claude) to produce functioning prototypes, not just static mockups.
- Fluency in Figma or a comparable collaborative design and prototyping tool.
- Experience designing based on user research, including direct user interviews and observation.
- Ability to work autonomously, identify design needs proactively, move quickly, and ask clarifying questions.
- Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time to customer warehouses and the Pittsburgh office.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing 0-to-1 products at a startup.
- Background in warehouse, logistics, fulfillment, or industrial environments, with experience designing for non-desk users.
- Experience with other generative UI design tools.
- 5 to 10 years of UX experience, or significant logistics/operations domain knowledge.
- Software development background.
